As summer is here temperatures can start to rise, there are a few things you can do to make your puppy or dogs days and nights more comfortable.
Always make sure your dog has access to water. Every morning and every night provide them with clean fresh wtaer and keep it topped up during the day. If your are going out of the house with your dog make sure you bring water and a bowl so you can keep them cool.
If your dog has a long coat then consider getting it trimmed right back so they will be cooler. Also as they will be outside more often a shorter coat makes locating fleas and ticks easier.
Never leave your dog in a car. The temperature within a car can raise an extra 20 oC - 40 oC higher than the outside temperature within a very short time. Such temperatures can be fatal to a dog so please do not do it, not even for 1 minute.
Try take you dog out for walks early in the morning and later in the evening. Try to avoid the hottest parts of the day, generally between the hours of 11am and 4pm. Although the sun is at its highest at noon, heat will continue to build up long after that. Also check the temperature of the ground as a dogs paws can be burnt on very hot days. Think of walking on the sand on a very hot day!
